Off Adventuring

Memorial Day weekend is known for kicking off summer and I can't wait to start mine with an adventure.

As many of you know, my brother's in the Navy and is living in Washington D.C. When my family asked Doug & I to come along for a trip we were beyond excited -- I can't wait for all the history tours, restaurant dining & east coast exploration that's undoubtedly in my future.

What are your plans? I hope you have a relaxing & fun weekend filled with adventures of your own. Any recommendations on places to go or things to see in D.C.? Be sure to look for monument photo ops on Instagram!

Canadian Tuxedo with a Twist

Denim on denim. A tricky pairing, truth be told. When done right you can look as hip as Leandra (A fun post of hers from the early days) and when done wrong...well, you risk looking like Justin back when Ramen noodles perused his head.

The secret to the look is two fold. The first is simple & must be always upheld. Wear different shades of denim. The second is one of my own making that I feel helps to wear the trend while infusing personality (a must with any outfit you choose). A Canadian Tuxedo with a twist, if you will. Emphasize an outfit accent besides denim. This could be done in many ways including utilizing a color, layers, or accessories.

I chose the color pearl to be my outfit accent, since I first paired my shirt & skirt with a dainty bow belt to accentuate my waistline. To play up the color further, I chose pearls. A shocking choice, I know. And to down play the color a bit, I chose nude heels choose as to not "over-pearl" my tux.

And there you have it -- a Canadian Tuxedo with a twist.
How do you rock denim on denim?

Je t'aime, weekend getaway.

Have you ever had a weekend that feels like a vacation, despite a lack of travel?  The weather's perfect, a mixture of relaxation and activity fills your days, and you're able to set into your zen zone.

After a long & stressful week that was less than ideal, a hometown escape was much needed this past weekend. So I threw care to the wind and set out to regroup (wearing my Eiffel Tower shirt as inspiration, of course). I slept in, went to the farmer's market, visited friends & family, ate plenty, walked around the zoo, took in sunshine while laying in the grass, and had a glass of wine or two along the way. Now, on Sunday evening as I prepare this post, I'm feeling more at peace, which was not what I would describe my mind-frame entering into the weekend.

Peace is a frame of mind, you see. Sometimes you just need to step back, relax, and take a breather.
My weekend getaway was just what I needed.

Hair Crush :: Karlie Kloss

You guys. I'm about to do something drastic.

The other day I came across this photo while browsing Instagram and had an audible "Who is that" moment. The answer: Karlie Kloss. I must be living under a rock considering she's a supermodel, but nonetheless my introduction was filled affirmations that she's stunning, confident and clearly crush worthy.

And that hair cut. It's carefree, chic, and ultra feminine. I love it.  As in I want it on my head. As in I am calling to make an appointment today. Drastic. Especially for me, considering I've had long hair forever. But lately I've been looking for a change, and I think Karlie's cut just may be the one for me.

What do you think? Do I dare?
