High Waisted

Alright, folks, I'm about to be the bearer of an uncomfortable and admittedly shallow confession.

One of my fashion fears is having a "mom butt". You know, those rear ends sporting long-waisted, width-accentuating pants that make the tush appear much larger than it really is? Anyone, at any age, child-or-no-child can be a victim of the "mom butt". It's often unnoticed by the person sporting the look, is predominantly caused by high waisted jeans, and can be identified by turning heads with eyes resembling deer in headlights.

As such, high waisted pants took a while for me to dabble in. Every pair I tried on was accompanied by mom butt fears and thrown across the dressing room with an audible, "NOPE!". That is...until I found this pair at Zara. I don't know if it was the adorable charcoal color, petitie pockets or folded waist, but I stepped outside my comfort zone and purchased them.

While I can't say I was 100% comfortable wearing them, it was a start. I strutted all day without a thought toward my butt. In full disclosure, this may have been a result of the fact that my zipper was broken and wouldn't stay up, so mom butt fears were replaced by underwear peek show fears.

Some days you just can't win.
PS - A huge thanks to Purple Paparazzi for my turquoise bracelet, which I won in a recent Fashion Truffles giveaway.

  1. haha the mom butt- I totally know what you mean! For me, it's hard to find pants that don't make my butt look flat. Since I'm petite, the butts in pants are always WAY too big for my waist-to-butt ratio, so I totally get what you mean! The trick is finding a brand that works for you (for me, it's PacSun for jeans) and stick with it. These looks great on you- and you have a 20-something butt, not a Mom butt :P
