DIY :: Layered Pendant Necklace

Eclectic jewelry filled with personality are the best accessories for any outfit. When Doug brought back these Asian pendants from a Chinatown flea market in San Francisco, I knew immediately that they would make the perfect neck candy. I love their vintage feel, copper and gold coloring and unique cultural flaire.

I paired my creation with a black blouse to help make the necklace pop. To tie in the copper and gold coloring, I wore a tweed J-Crew skirt, yellow tights and heels. I loved this fun outfit pairing because, like the necklace, it's filled with personality.

If you know Chinese and can decode their meaning, please do! I'm dying to know what the characters on my pendants mean.

Click the jump for a breakdown on how to make your own layered necklace.

Step 1: Cut the chain to your desired necklace length. Secure the clasp on both ends of the chain by carefully opening the end links, looping the clasp in, and closing the links.

Step 2: Put on the pendant that you want to be placed  in the middle of your layers.
Step 3: Create the bottom layer by measuring a separate chain. Secure this chain to the base of your necklace by opening the links and closing them around links of the base chain. Make sure the bottom chain is positioned in the middle of your base chain.

Step 4: Repeat step 3 for the top layer, making the length of the chain half the length of the bottom layer.

  32. Nice finds, Emily! Vintage and gold. What more could you ask for? And they look nothing like a flea market necklace. Like you said, it has personality. They would be fine accessories even if the outfit isn’t as fabulous as yours. =D Lorita @ BuyingValuables.com
