A Delicious Caramel Apple Party

Last weekend, a few of my favorite Chicago bloggers and I gathered at Kit's house for a little caramel apple party. The occasion? Simply to embrace fall and all the delicious tastes that go with it.

We had toppings galore including gingersnaps, sprinkles, crushed Oreos, nuts, chocolate chips, pretzels, and many more. The result? The most mouth-watering apple slices I think I've ever had.
Kit made two types of caramel for our apples - one a standard, sweet version and one that was made from whiskey. Both were absolutely amazing, but I have to say, the whiskey caramel was just...wow. I think the best way to describe the flavor is that it was a little deeper than normal caramel.

If you want to make your own, here's the recipe!

:: INGREDIENTS ::
1/4 cup whiskey
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 tablespoon vanilla

:: DIRECTIONS ::
1. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the sugar and whisk until melted.
2. Add the whiskey. Let simmer steady for 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
3. Add the cream and let the sauce slowly simmer and reduce for 20 - 25 minutes, until it has thickened.

While the apples were delicious, what's making my mouth water in hindsight are the apple cider mimosas that we drank. I'd never tried one before, which surprises me considering I've never said "No" to a mimosa before, but they quickly became one of my favorite drinks with just a few sips. If I could pick something that tastes like fall, this would be it.

The ingredients? Just fresh cider & champagne!

And there you have it! A caramel apple party, complete with sips of fall to go with. It's definitely something you should try this weekend, so my vote is that you gather some friends, get out the sprinkles, and drool over all the sweets that go with this fabulous rendezvous.

Be sure to swing by Maya, Kit, Jess, Nicole, and Jennie's blogs to see more pictures! {PS - A big thanks to Sprinkles for providing the cupcakes!}
